Day One

After the first day I am feeling pretty good about the concept and progress of my game.

After brainstorming, I decided on a game in the Match Three genre. This is new ground for me, as I have never built a game like this. I usually don't even like these kind of games, but I have enjoyed the game "Gems Of War" lately and really like the mechanic of swapping pieces, instead of the usual drawing out the matches like in Candy Crush and others.

With the Theme being "Running Out Of Space", I found myself drawn to create some kind of game where you are trying to escape or run away from something in Space. With that in mind, I added a system to the Match Three genre which has the Player control a Space Ship that is being chased by Pirates, like F.T.L.

The object of each level is for the Player to keep away from the Pirates long enough to charge the Warp drives which will complete the level. The Warp drive is continually charging, but it can be increased by finding a Match for that type of Game piece. In addition to the Warp drive, the player can increase the Speed, Shields, Weapons and Power of the ship by Matching on those specific pieces as well.

During game play, the Pirates will continue to attack the player's ship, and any kind of damage taken when the Shields are not powered will result in damage to the Hull of the ship. If the Hull reaches zero, the ship will be destroyed, ending the level. The level can also be ended if the speed of the Ship gets too slow, and the Pirates catch the Player.

If I have time I would like to add a Rogue element to the game where the Player can select the different Planets and Star Systems to go to, and pick the types of Cargo to carry, and add a Money element to the Game. It could easily be taken further to include Ship upgrades and more.

So that is the idea, below is a screen shot of what it looks like so far. I have a lot of work to do today.

Thanks for Reading.
